So today I had the meeting with my mentor, Nancy Holder. Nancy is a kind person, and I always feel blessed to be able to talk to her and get my life figured out. I had a huge takeaway today: Write the &(*#4ing book. I kept asking Nancy, "How many conferences should I go to? How many short stories do I need to do? Should I write articles? How many tweets a day should I tweet??" Her answer: "Write your book." It was humbling (and relieving) to hear "if you want to be a writer, you have to write." So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to get up in the morning with one goal: write the book. Everything else needs to be out of the peripheral right now. So to commemorate this breakthrough, I have posted a picture of my new dining room. Above my space, where my trusty laptop and assorted drinks of water and pop are placed, is my electricity reference map. Because my main character is an inventor and a scientist, and I know nothing about science. I should have failed science in high school, and by the Grace of Mr. Whoshisname, I didn't. So I will go headfirst into this project. I will stop freaking out about cons. I will stop freaking out about deadlines. I will just write. Allons-y. |
